Shame and Sensibility

What a sad state we have come to, when we realize a girl is no longer safe neither in womb nor on the streets, neither from kin nor from strangers, that neither her grooming nor her education can stop her from getting groped or molested. Have we collectively lost all our senses or is it because we are completely shameless?

It is not very common, that an incident, no matter how untoward, draws unanimous flak from an entire nation. There was the exceptional scenario of India against corruption several months ago. This was not just one single demonstration but rather a wave of protests, undertaken for seeing a very positive transformation in our country. It was a welcome change from our lethargic selves. I can sense a similar large scale protest happening; this time at the heart of India, sadly, for a reason which we all would have wished never happened in the first place.

The One Rupee Coin

Below is my entry for a “Scribble” competition. I’ve never written under so many restrictions (1 hour; 250 words; 3 topics).

I wrote this in around 20 minutes and ran away from that place. I didn’t fancy a third place!

What’s the value of one rupee? Some lose/ gain a coin; for some its even more.

I was born poor, grew in tough circumstances and seen poverty in and out. My dad, a poor farmer, died in starvation – unable to pay up a few hundred rupees a month!

My 55 Word Story

A challenge for a 55 word story. Here it is…

My first attempt at this 55 word thingie. “Got contaminated” over here. This one’s supposed to be on the topic ‘Reigning Man’:

He looked at the gun pointed at him and knew he had screwed up. His negotiating skills had taken him far, but not far enough. He looked at his would-be killer one more time. You lose… screamed the killer… then BANG!

Reigning Statesman found dead in front of his dresser! Suicide confirmed! screamed the headlines.

Día De Juicio

A story of justice and revenge…

The tile means “Day of Judgment”… I wanted 2 keep it as the same and leave it at that; but somehow, according to my mood the other day, I decided I needed a name in some other language. So I got this word & translated it in Spanish.

Also a few thanks to MS Words Synonyms feature without which I couldn’t have got so many out of ordinary words!

Plus thanks to Wiki & of course Google & a few other obscure sites for all the info & tidbits.

Justice has a strange way of implementing itself. No matter how fast or how far the wrong doer runs away from his misdoings, law catches up and rebukes the guilty. It is not always the law established by men for this is perhaps the weakest of laws when it comes to castigating the sinner; many a men do get away from law made by men equally wrong! But there are certain forces in nature which help those in distress, those who have been wronged to avenge the injustice that was done onto them. Death is not always the ultimate punishment, but probably not in this case.

The Great Puppet Show

And the puppets continue to believe they are the masters of themselves…

The puppets dangle from the strings,
The puppets are here to dance,
Moving to every little movement
The puppeteer decides to make.

The puppeteer swings a thread,
Cuts another, and entwines two in one;
The puppets know not what is next,
For, there are no rules to this game.

They have no senses, but believe they do,
For the puppeteer is a master at this play.
To think with one end and survive with another,
That’s all there is to this silly little game!
