My entry for a theme based story writing competition in my organization. I wrote under the theme “I wake up to find myself as a monkey in the zoo.” There was a 300 character word limit and the condition that the story must be funny and original.
‘It had to be here somewhere! The alarm clock… Strangely it was just giving a humming noise; it must be broken!‘
I woke up a bit dizzy. ‘This isn’t my bedroom… What’s with the stink?!’
‘Who are those kids and why are they behind bars? They don’t seem very sad.‘ It was then that the ‘aaha moment‘ hit me.
I looked down on myself and noticed the transformation. ‘I am monkey in a zoo! A shiver went down my spine – or whatever it is that a monkey has.‘

A quickie to illustrate what faith could mean to the less fortunate…
The town’s biggest (haughtiest) business man decided to pay a visit to the houses of the less fortunate.
On one such occasion, he visited the shed of old Jose who was the local coffin maker. For no good reason he decided to ridicule the old man’s job and joked out loud to those near him.
“Ah, here’s a profession that always needs an out-of-the-box thinking! You must be thanking god for putting you in this one Jose!”
A few around, realizing the jab and laughed out loud while others did the same mostly to impress the big man.

Is fanaticism really good for the spirit of any game?
“Come on Shiela, our son’s playing!“ Kumar was ecstatic jumping with joy watching the idiot box in their new flat.
The Kumar’s had just moved to the locality; shifting to a comfortable three bedroom apartment, a great relief from the dark and dingy single bedroom flat where they had lived for twenty long years! All thanks to their son Vijay!

A tale of one vulture and his attitude of giving constant demeaning remarks against us humans…
“Hi there… I am Jack the vulture. My nest is way over there, beyond those mountains. I can see it from here, but am not so sure if you will be able to! I’ve been living in this arid desert since I was born.”
“You see those dunes moving beneath us. Yeah! Well I’ve seen them do the same for ever. Damn sands, they never get tired do they? Keep shifting from one place to another troubling everyone. But I don’t want to curse the desert, because it has fed me to what I am.”

This is a sarcastic tale of a little fish in the big ocean and his admiration for the ‘mightiest’ creatures of this planet! All’s fair in the so called ‘circle of life’ 🙂
“You know sometimes I wonder what we were doing just before being born on this planet. I believe every creature has the same god and I guess we were all chit-chatting with god just before being born in here.”
“What were we talking about? I guess god would have asked us, so what do you want to be this time? And guess what would I have replied?‘
“Me, I want to be a fish!”

What is considered blasphemy nowadays could have very well been heroic in an era gone by!
Akbar waited with bated breath for the vehicle to pass. He had the humongous responsibility of taking the small building down. The thought didn’t deter him. Neither did it shake the insurmountable wall of faith for the cause which had given him a new life.
Never in his life had he thought he will end up taking arms. And if the gods have mercy on him, he may not have to go through the ordeal again. He knew he would be hunted down one way or another in case he survived. He just wanted to see those who caused so much suffering to his fellowmen, suffer in return; he wanted to see those men, who ruined his land, to die.
